and near san martin avenue. southern santa clara county. all of those lanes in the southbound direction were shut down for hours during this cleanup. this hour, there's no word yet on exactly what caused that crash. we can tell you all lanes have now reopened in time for that morning commute. >> also overnight san francisco city hall expected to reopen this morning after an electrical fire late last night. firefighters say an electrical panel started smoking, activated the sprinkler system in the basement. this is actual cell phone video taken by one of our producers showing some of the water damage inside. building was not evacuated but power was cut to some of these exterior lights. including the dome on city hall. crews were on the scene last night and we will know later today how much damage was caused by the incident. >> coming coverage this morning as cleanup still under way after thousands of gallons of water poured right down a hillside in daly city. bringing dirt and debris along with it. you can see it there.

this morning cleanup still under way. but some of that dirt and mud still remaining out on those streets. this is happening in the hillside park district that's the neighborhood of daly city. that's where christie smith is back at it this morning. joins us live with a look at the cleanup efforts and possible new danger right now that is lurking for that neighborhood. christie, good morning. >> reporter: good morning to you. there is the concern this morning. that's because rain is on the way. the lied ea, you can't see it but it is actually on the hillside behind me there. we are standing in hillside park p you can see this morning this is the way the -- came down. still buried this morning under about three feet of mud and sand. that happened yesterday when a water pipe broke. sending about 45,000 gallons of water spilling right down the hillside bringing the sand and mud with it into the street. it locked cars into about let's feet of mud. forced neighbors to evacuate.

fortunately, though, that mud and water didn't get into any homes. but crews will be back today to clear storm drains and finish the cleanup. neighbors say that that initial break overnight yesterday sounded a lot like a storm. >> we live down here. about 5:00 -- could see the water coming down. faber glass, the police say that -- better evacuate. the water is coming down fast. >> reporter: we took a quick drive around the neighborhood today. those cars that were caked in the mud yesterday were not seeing that today. they did a good job of clearing out some of the streets. the pipe that was installed that broke that was actually installed 78 years ago according to the water department. they are saying in their opinion probably just broke because it was old. reporting live in daly city, christie smith, "today in the bay." new this morning, fire fighter is injured after flames

went through a home overnight. people inside the house woke up to the smell of smoke at 12:30 this morning sherwood forest drive. when firefighters arrived they saw flames shooting through the roof. and from the attic. firefighters say it took them a long time to fight the fire because the home has a multilayer roof. one fire fighter suffered minor injuries. it is unclear how he was hurt. one of the men arrested in connection with the vandalizing of a bus the night the giants won the world series is due in court this afternoon. police say that the photo shows 24-year-old adam diaz using a skateboard to smash the side windows of a $700,000 bus. he was the third suspect arrested in connection with the destruction back on october 29. diaz now booked in san francisco county jail on friday on suspicion of vandalism and damaging transit vehicles. both of which are felonies. >> 11th hour appeal has been piled to stop what some would

by so-called carbon credits at auction. it is a centerpiece of a 2006 state law designed to reduce greenhouse gases to 1990s levels by 2020. the california air resources board will run today's first ever auction in which the pollution permits will be sold. one permit allows one carbon to be emitted. minimum bid price is $10 a ton. many businesses say that this merely is an energy tax that will cost them a fortune. while others, including pg&e support the move but warn it is going to impact rates and the cost could fall on the consumer. >> the goal of this is to cut the kind of emissions that can cause global warming. what that means is greenhouse gases are what we are after. they include everything from cement to glass and to oil refinerying to food processing. >> the one caveat here is there is a chance today's auction will be blocked by a lawsuit filed in

the man slapped the repoman and dragged her into meesh bushes. the only evidence they found was leggings and tennis shoes. no missing person reports, however, have been filed. shocking accusation that simply shocked ed "sesame stre" a man accused of clash of having sex with him when he was a teenage boy is now changing his story. that man now says he and clash did have a consensual relationship. both as adults. he has take anyleave of absence from that show to fight these charges. he now says he's simply relieved the allegations have been put to rest. at this point it is unclear when clash will return to "sesame street." 6:18. let's get you up to speed with a chick quick of the day's top stories. cleanup effortses are in overdrive this morning as a neighborhood digs out from the massive mud slides. new concern this morning that

rain this weekend could actually make that situation even worse. ruptured water main is blamed for mudslides that flooded streets and covered cars and several inches of mud. >> good news right before thanksgiving. bay area crab fishermen dropping their pods for the first crabs of the season. commercial crab season officially starts season. it will be in stores as early as friday. that price has gone up to $3 a pound. house minority leader nancy pelosi is expected to make announcement about her career this morning. many are wondering whether she will step down from her leadership role. announcement comes at 7:00 a.m. man on the run, john mcafee says he narrowly escape ad police dragnet in belize. >> mcafee wanted for in a murder. >> person of interest, laura. he's in his adopted homeland. mcafee has been talking by phone to a reporter at "wired" magazine. last phone call just a couple of

minutes ago. he says that he has changed his appearance, dyed his hair black, and at one point dug a hole in the sand and crouched down inside with a cardboard box over his head. again, according to phone calls, from the eccentric millionaire, who founded the mcafee's virus software. police say that he's only wanted for questioning in the murder. again, yeah, again. facebook shares are locking again. this will be the last lockup expiration when employees and other insiders able to sell shares. this is the biggest ever today. the number of shares in facebook now doubled what they were in the first day of trading. head of san francisco's largest company, san jose's, largest company cisco systems, said hay had nothing to do with the u.s. government's scathing report of a competitor. cisco's ceo john chambers talking with reporters and analysts on a conference call on tuesday. cisco systems reporting quarterly profits.

to you. look at a boat heading out now towards the golden gate. this one we have seen leave pier 45 area this morning. reason why we are leaving today is because yesterday the fishermen and processors finally agreed on the price $3 a pound. more on that in just a moment. what we are going on do, go to the golden gate and start setting their crab pots. that's what these are between bodega bay and half moon bay, back out here tomorrow to receive -- retrieve those pots and bring the dungeness crab back here to the market. when we are hearing from fishermen now as far as this season compared to last season, one, there is not as much supply out there. this is based on reports they are getting from the sports fishermen. they are saying there may be a modest haul. you can do the math. if you have low supply andlets of demand, lot of people want this in time for thanksgiving, prices are going to go up. that's why they did agree on three buck as pound yesterday with a processor and as -- little more than last year, last

year you may recall it was $2.25 a pound. this year, getting dungeness, paying 75 cents more per pound. >> we should be able to fill all of those crab borders for thanksgiving. it is just we will not able -- it won't abcheap price this year. everyone needs to, you know, expect a higher price. >> reporter: also, add in the fact that the price of fuel is up. that's also one reason why the price per pound has gone up. good news is you are going to have crab in time for thanksgiving which is a big tradition here in the bay area. last year that was not the case because of a dispute between the fishermen and processors. they were not getting dungeness crab until after the holiday. they will be having it on the market by tomorrow. at least that's the plan. roaring live, bob redell, "today in the bay." 6:18 now. christina loren is back and all these change this week and last week. lot of ups and downs. >> yes. it has been a roller coaster ride and will continue as we head through the upcoming weekend.

and tomorrow. that will keep the temperatures close to records for this time of year and plenty of 60s and 70s. forecasting about 73 degrees in santa cruz. stop the clock for you on your future cast. expecting first showers to roll through. and about 8:00 p.m. tomorrow night. we get heavy moderate rain as we head lou about 3:00 a.m. friday. you can see the yellow here embedded within the deep green. yeah. heavy pockets of rain on the way with if first system. it will creep up from the south. bringing about pretty robust numbers. we are expecting temperatures to remain in the 60s. rainfall totals could be anywhere between an inch to an inch and a half. even along the peninsula as we see the stronger cells roll through. so whole thing clears out when it comes to the first system. we head through saturday, another colder system moves on she as we head hue sunday and monday. moral of this story is enjoy the warmth and sunny days while they last. 74 degrees in san francisco. 7-day outlook tells the story. rain continues all the way through the second half of your extended forecast. few showers tuesday.

pfrmgts good morning, everybody. glad you could join us. i'm jon kelley. >> i'm laura garcia-cannon. business meets the beltway as president obama meets the ce onto brain storm ways of falling over the so-called fiscal cliff. it is a series of expiring tax cuts and across-the-board spending cuts set to take effect january 1 if congress does not act. for more insight let's turn to tracie potts, live in washington, d.c. understand -- business leaders we talked about will be attending the meeting. do we know which ones? >> right. a number of them. ceos of ge, general electric, chevron, bay area company, about a dozen of them. these are groups ceos that the president has been trying to get together to back his plan that we expect. he will outline in that news conference in a few hours. part of the group called the campaign to fix the debt really trying to hone in on what we can do to preserve medicare in the process of reducing the debt in

the deficit. >> democrats floating an unorthodox idea. we understand they actually might let the government go over the cliff, at least temporarily. why is that? >> yes. you know, i should emphasize here, some democrats. the white house very cool to this. you may imagine both leaders in both parties, democrat and republican, as well, you know, letting us go over the cliff means your taxes are going to go up, people are going to lose unemployment checks, spending cuts in the government are going to have an effect on the wallet and all of this at a time we are still in a rocky recovery. neither party really probably wants to take the chance of taking the blame for that. both of them could end up taking the blame for that before they are able to fix it. >> well, in the meantime, republicans certainly not backing down as well. wanting to protect tax cuts as well. is there hope for a compromise? >> reporter: there is hope for a compromise. what republicans said is -- let's make the economy bigger and grow economy so people are making more money. we naturally get more taxes. in other words, taxing a bigger

salary as opposed to raising the tax rate. either way you end up paying more taxes and more money in one scenario. hope or compromise because the spirit of compromise seems to be here. in terms of where they are, you neither have -- seems to have really buzzed a lot from their initial positions here. we are dealing with a deadline. >> this is very interesting. one last thing. as all happening as we are expecting the announcement, house minority leader from nancy pelosi, of course, bay area's pelosi. is she expected to step down as minority leader? >> reporter: she could. we are going to get that announcement shortly. keep in mind that this is the second election where they have failed to have a democratic majority in the house. she has been the minority leader now through two elections and certainly possible that she may not -- republican leadership that we don't expect to change over much at all.

she may hand the mantle over to somebody else. we will find out in a couple hours or less. >> we will be monitoring that as well. thank you very much. you talked about the future of nancy pelosi. we can tell you she's already spoken to the cia about the growing controversy involving general david petraeus and john allen. >> i don't have any reason to think that there are any national security issues at stake in what's transpiring. >> we just got breaking news that nancy pelosi will be staying on so she's not going to step down and hand over her duties. we will see more years of nancy pelosi there on the capitol hill. helping run things out will. we can also tell you back to the situation with pelosi, mentioning that on the controversy there, this question about the nature of the e-mails sent between general allen and jill kelley. one senior official says that they weren't explicit but they used names like sweetheart and deer. allen at this point denies any wrongdoing. keley's initial complain about

the harassing e-mails led to a discovery of an affair between petraeus and paula broadwell. petraeus, of course, is the former director of the cia and this hour still unclear if he will be called to testify before congress about those deadly attacks on in libya. pg&e workers are coming home after following out following the aftermath of superstorm sandy. more than 150 employees actually volunteered to help restore power. spent the past would weeks in some of the hardest hit areas of new york. more than 2 million homeowners were left in the dark when superstorm sandy hi the eastern seaboard. as of today more than 14,000 homes and businesses on new york's long island are still without power. that power is, however, expected to be turned back on fully a some point today. would nurses working at the santa clara county jail have been arrested for allegedly stealing drugs is a that were supposed for the inmate's medical care.

streets after thousands of gallons of water poured down a hillside in daly city. this morning, that dirt and mud still visible along the streets as crews continue to try to clean it all up. it is happening in the hillside park neighborhood of daly city. that's where christie smith joins us live with a look at the cleanup efforts. good morning. >> reporter: good morning to you. the streets are surprisingly clean this morning. we are standing in hillside park which is still caked under about three feet of mud. now that it is getting lighter out here i want on show you what we saw in the corner of the park. you see there, the top there, that is actually a picnic table. that shows you how much mud is still here. concern, though, is what's going to happen to all of this and the hillside behind it when the heavy rains hit. cleanup will continue today and engineers were actually up on that hillside checking its stability yesterday after a huge section gave way when a water pipe broke, spilling about 45,000 gallons of water, sand and mud into the streets.

12 homes were evacuatie and mud into the streets. 12 homes were evacuativacuated. unfortunately the mud and water didn't get in those homes but cars were caked in at least two to three feet of mud. most of it is clean now and neighbors say the initial break sounded like a storm. >> i checked, i checked out the side and i saw like -- some gushing water but i couldn't really see where the source was. >> did you know there was a water tank at the top of the hill? >> no. no. i wasn't aware there was -- there was a tank up there. >> reporter: so today what's going to be happen sing crews will be back this morning clearing out the storm drains and making sure when the rain does come, it has a place to drain off. daly city water department says the best guess they have is that the pipe broke because it was old and back here live, one of our producers asked me what the cars looked like today. and the cars are not stuck this morning. i wanted to show you what they look like this morning. this is one of those that was in the mud. you can see it is out. but still got quite a ways to

way. we have two systems of low pressure moving onshore we head throughout the end of the week into the weekend. first one is going to come through late thursday into saturday. this one is -- juicier system and next one very cold. moderate rainfall just before we hit your morning commute friday. that will continue through about 5:00 a.m. friday. we will see a little bit of on and off activity as we head through friday, saturday, another system rolls through. late saturday, sunday, monday, lingering on tuesday. what i can tell you is a lot of people have family and friends coming into town as we get into the thanksgiving holiday. it looks like we will clear out, die out, just in time for wednesday. which the busiest travel day of the year. we are looking okay in that department. 74 degrees for today. livermore. sunday, we will hold on to the 70s through your thursday. then rain showers move in friday, saturday, and sunday. we will get a pew spotty cold showers on monday. and then by the second half of tuesday, clearing you out. just in time like i said before for the busiest travel day of

new charges against the 15-year-old's suspected kidnapper and murderer. marla tellez joins news the studio with new details. >> reporter: santa clara county district attorney confirms for us he has added three new charges against garcia-torres. torres is already facing kidnapping and murder charges in the lamar case. sierra lamar's body has not been found. to be clear the new charges are unrelated to that case. they include three counts of attempted kidnapping in the commission of a carjacking. according to the d.a. they involve three separate victims all young women. and these all happened back in march of 2009. our chief investigative reporter, tony kovaleski spoke to our legal analyst what that means for the lamar case. >> we are here to -- to file conduct that we believe we can prove beyond a reasonable doubt, to hold -- the defendant accountable for everything that

he has done. >> this new evidence and these new charges, bolster the d.a.'s theory that garcia-torres is a violent predator capable of murder. >> legal analyst clark stead the judge has to rule on whether to allow the jury to consider these new charges when deciding the lamar case against torres. either way he thinks that the d.a. is going for life or the possibility of the death penalty. the next time we can expect to see garcia tore necessary court is december 10 when he willy be arraign order the new charges. >> thank you very much. it is 6:52 now. school board meeting again this morning behind closed doors. talking about ways to try to keep students safe. the board met last night for the first time since the sex abuse scandal. forced the board president to resign in that meeting, the board apologizing to former students kristin kunane and two other sexually abused victims. now, it is also pledging at this

allow more time to look behind the policies behind the idea. he got so much support for his proposition 30. it comes after the board of trustees decided to postpone a vote on the new undergraduate fee structure. governor brown attended that meeting and said he agreed with the board's decision and also discussed that proposition 30 as i mentioned. saying without it greatly help public schools and universities but i won't fix everything. it is expected san francisco city hall will reopen this morning affleckal fire late last night. firefighters say that an electrical panel started smoking and activated sprinkler system in that basement. this is cell phone video. taken by one of our trustee producers out there. showing some of that water damage inside the building. building was not evacuated but power was cut to some of the exterior lights including the big dome on city hall. pg&e crews on the scene late last night working very hard and we should know later today

not be as good as last year. but -- lot better price. three bucks a pound. hopefully it will work out. >> and for the consumer, what do you think the quality of crabs will be like? >> it is always good out of san francisco. we -- rare -- never have to worry about quality. >> reporter: the fishermen are able to get more per pound this year because they believe there will be a limited supply. modest compared to last year. also, the price of fuel has gone up. that's why they have gotten roughly 75 cents more per pound this season compared to last season. you may recall last season because there was a dispute between the fishermen and processors there was no crab here in time for thanksgiving. but here we are a week out and they are already setting those pots. should be enough dungeness in time for turkey day which just a week from tomorrow. >> all right. thank you very much. >> all right. let's check in with the weather break. check in for mike.
